White cardboard for cigarette packets requires high stiffness, breakage resistance, smoothness and whiteness. The paper surface requirements are flat, no stripes, spots, dents and bumps, warping and deformation of the production. As the cigarette packet with white cardboard mainly using high-speed gravure printing machine to print, so the white cardboard tension index requirements are high. Tension resistance is also known as tensile strength or tensile strength, which means the maximum tension that the paper can withstand when it breaks, expressed in kN/m. There are two types of white cardboard for cigarette packets, one is FBB (yellow core white card), one is SBS (white core white card), cigarette packets using FBB and SBS are single-sided coated white cardboard, FBB consists of three layers of pulp, the face and bottom layer using sulfate wood pulp, the core layer using chemical mechanical grinding wood pulp. The front side (printing side) is the coating layer, which is applied with two or three squeegees, while the reverse side has no coating layer. Since the middle layer is made of chemically and mechanically milled wood pulp, the pulp has a high yield to wood (85%-90%), and the production cost is relatively low, so the price of FBB cardboard is relatively low.
FBB pulp has more long fibers and fewer small fibers and fiber bundles, so the thickness of the finished paper is better, and the same gram of FBB is much thicker than SBS, which is also usually composed of three layers of pulp, the top layer, core layer and bottom layer all use bleached sulfate wood pulp. The front side (printing side) is the coating layer, which is applied twice or three times with the same squeegee as FBB, while the reverse side has no coating layer. Since the core layer is also made of bleached sulfate pulp, the whiteness is higher, so it is called white core white card. At the same time, the pulp fibers are small and the paper is tighter, so SBS is much thinner than FBB of the same gram weight. For example, the thickness of 230g/m2 FBB of Hongta Renheng is 320μm, while the thickness of 230g/m2 SBS is 295μm.
